My name is Robert Hanon. I am currently a senior at Carroll University, majoring in Exercise Science. I have been a type one diabetic for 11 years now, and have been actively pursing exercise for at least the past 8 years. Through those 8 years, I have picked up a lot of experiential knowledge and textbook knowledge. The combination of the two makes me a great resource, at least I believe so. I am currently on an insulin-pump and have been using pump therapy for 6 years now.
My exercise of choice is cycling. I absolutely love it. Being in Wisconsin though, the winters are difficult as the only cycling that I can enjoy is on a trainer, in the basement, while watching netflix. But in the spring, summer and fall you can find me going on long rides and soaking up the fresh air. In high school I ran track and cross country, and even though I had diabetes I was the top distance runner for the majority of my career there.
The reason why I am writing this blog is simple. I started helping out other newly diagnosed diabetics last year, and every now and then more people ask for tips and advice. I figured a blog would be a geat opportunity to share my experiences with more and more people. I hope you enjoy reading these blogs. Find me on twitter, roberthanon, or on facebook, or leave a comment if you have a topic that you would like for me to address directly.
Keep Sweating,
Rob
